High speed without costly SAN To achieve high enough network speed one may consider installing a traditional SAN with a costly Fibrechannel network. The DDP however is the affordable solution for audio and video. With the DDP equal network speed is offered using standard Ethernet. By pairing GbE ports even uncompressed HD, 4:4:4, 10bit, 1080p24 with a sustained data rate of 180 MByte/s performs well using standard Gigabit Ethernet. And for Digital Intermediate... For higher data rates such as Digital Intermediate formats, 2K and higher, 10 GbE can be used instead. 10 GbE is quickly becoming a standard as well and component prices are dropping quickly due to the enormous size of this industry. Lower system and maintenance costs It is clear that infrastructure costs are lower but what about the system costs? In comparison with NAS based solutions the DynamicDrivePool system costs are lower then expected due to the high efficiency in data rate (i.e. a less powerful DDP needs to be purchased). The hardware of the DynamicDrivePool consists of standard off-the-shelf components and it is easy to install and maintain. This assures that replacement costs and costs of personnel are as low as possible. |
